The population of Korf was estimated at 1,200 in 2006. On 21 April 2006 Korf was destroyed by the 2006 Kamchatka earthquake. More than 800 families were evacuated and the settlement was slated to be abandoned. As of 2009, however, about 400 people still live in Korf.
