Bimson fractured her cheek

during a 2006 World Cup game against India. A stick hit her in the face but she played the rest of the tournament under the impression from the tournament doctor that it was not broken. She went home and the team doctor sent her for scans. Two days later an operation put a metal plate in her cheek bone, which was broken in three places. She retired from hockey after the 2008 Olympics.
