His nickname is "Christmas" stems from his resemblance to the character Lloyd Christmas played by Jim Carrey

Volkmann next faced Paul Kelly. The fight was scheduled for the UFC 116 prelims, on July 3. However, the fight was moved on August 1, to the UFC on Versus: Jones vs. Matyushenko card, due to visa issues for Kelly. Volkmann defeated Kelly via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).
