Due to the disappointing performance in the previous world junior competition, beginning in the 2007/2008 season, the Slovak U20 team will be playing in the Slovak Extraliga

. This is partially due to nervousness after the Czech U18 team was relegated and the Slovak U20 team came very close. The youth players from across the league were placed on the team with a notable amount coming from HC Dukla Trenčín
