Goghtn also known as Goghtan, was a region in size and location similar to the current Ordubad
region of Nakhichevan
. Goghtn was the 33rd region of Vaspurakan
and remained part of it until 737 AD.

From the 890s it was a small Muslim statelet, centered on the town of Goght'n (which was probably either Ordubad
or Agulis). Its Arab emirs were of the Shaybani tribe and were often in conflict with the neighbouring emirates of Nashawa (Nakhichevan
) and Dabil (Dvin
) and sometimes in alliance with the Armenian Bagratids.
At the beginning of the 17th century, due to the deportation organized by Shah Abbas I, the population of Goghtn, as well as many other towns and villages of Nakhichevan, were forced to leave their homeland.
