Basketball Tragedy

On February 18, 2008, GOHS star point guard Shannon Veal collapsed and died during a second round playoff game against Helen Cox. Veal had just finished shooting two free throws when she collapsed late in the first quarter. The game was postponed from that time, with GOHS leading 35-17. The cause of death was determined as cardiomyopathy, or an enlarged heart. GOHS pressed on, winning the resumed game 64-40 on the next night.
