officer who commanded 9th Highland Division.

during which he was mentioned in despatches and awarded the DSO
. He became Commanding Officer of the 41st Battalion of the Machine Gun Corps
in 1919. He transferred to the Royal Tank Corps
in 1923 and immediately became Chief Instructor at the Royal Tank Corps Headquarters Central Schools. He was appointed Inspector of the Royal Tank Corps at the War Office
in 1925, Brigadier on the General Staff at Egyptian Command in 1929 and Commander of 7th (Mechanised Experimental) Infantry Brigade in 1932. He went on to be General Officer Commanding the Presidency and Assam District in India
in 1935 before retiring in 1939. He was recalled at the start of World War II
to be General Officer Commanding 9th Highland Division in North West Europe in 1939 and then served as Deputy Regional Commandant for the South West Civil Defence Region from 1940 and as Commissioner for the British Red Cross
in North West Europe from 1944 before retiring again in 1946.
