Garena was founded by Forrest Li on March 2007 with the goal of improving online gaming experience. In 2010, Garena introduced a new application called the Garena Messenger.

Features

The Garena client focuses on combining messaging and gaming functionality and automatically detects abnormal gameplay and bans hackers. Although it has been known to ban innocent players as well and sometimes doesn't detect hacks. The platform has an experience ladder wherein players gain experience and levels by playing the games offered in Garena. At higher levels players are able to access higher leveled rooms which offer greater challenges.

Players can interact with one another through the use of an integrated instant messaging system as well as through the use of lobby-based chat rooms and form exclusive clans. A personal ban list enables users to prevent cheaters from entering their games by adding the user ID in a ban.
