, State Road 990 currently extends from an interchange between the Don Shula Expressway (SR 874) and West 107th Avenue (SR 985) to South Dixie Highway (U.S. Route 1/SR 5

East of SR 990's eastern terminus, the Killian continues east, entering Pinecrest
at the intersection of US 1, continuing east through the town, curving slightly north at South 62nd Court and becoming South 111th Street. It continues to head east until its eastern terminus at West 57th Avenue/Red Road

, this segment of the roadway is co-named Franz and Louis Scherr Street in honor of the founders of the world famous tourist attraction.
West of SR 990's western terminus, South 104th Street/Killian Parkway continues west, serving as a east-west road through Kendall, serving the Miami-Dade College's Kendall Campus just a few blocks west of SR 990's terminus, with the Killian Parkway name being dropped west of West 117th Avenue, and terminating at West 167th Avenue.
In the 1950s, Kendall was being developed with different “boundaries” than being used by the community today. Signs indicating its original northern boundary – “North Kendall Drive,” South 88th Street (SR 94
) – are still being used as street identifiers (although they are gradually being replaced by “Kendall Drive” signs), while signs identifying the southern edge of Kendall – “South Kendall Drive,” South 104th Street – have long since disappeared.
When the State Road signs were erected in 1982, they lined a route thrice as long as the current alignment and identified it as State Road 936. Originally, the western terminus was an intersection of South 104th Street and West 137th Avenue (SR 825
) in Kendall (although some commercial maps from as recent as 2004 incorrectly show SR 990 extending two miles (3 km) further to the west, to West 157th Avenue near the Hammocks
) and the eastern terminus was an intersection with Red Road/West 57th Avenue (then SR 959
) in Pinecrest, at the parking lot of the original Parrot Jungle and Gardens
(now Pinecrest Gardens Park). The western end was truncated to SR 985 by 1990; about four years later, the SR 936 signs were replaced with SR 990 signs; by the end of the decade, the SR 990 signs were removed from Killian Drive east of South Dixie Highway (US 1), about the same time the Florida Department of Transportation
deleted the part of SR 959 south of Dixie Highway as well.

Route description
State Road 990 begins as a six lane divided road at an intersection with SR 985 and the Don Shula Expressway in unincorporated Miami-Dade County. Heading east, SR 990, known as Killian Parkway and South 104th Street, crosses over the toll road, curving south, as it enters a residential area, where SR 990, known only as Killian Parkway at this point, stays throughout its route. It straightens to a cardinal east direction at West 97th Avenue, where the road reduces to four lanes and the divider disappears, and the name changes to Killian Drive and South 112th Street. History
Killian Drive is named in honor of Dan Killian who was an area pioneer and county commissioner, responsible for the first area schools, churches and street lights. His country store was about one block south of historic "Dice House", now at West 77th Avenue and 100th Street.
