The School's philosophy

The school has developed a reputation for its emphasis on individual attention, academic excellence, school spirit and pastoral care. They are known for their close-knit, family-like community where everyone knows everyone. There are small class sizes in both sections of the school and provisions are made for children with learning difficulties and those for whom English is a secondary language.
The international school is committed to equality, welcoming students from all faiths and communities.

. The rest come from over 25 countries, many of whom have studied at international schools throughout the world. As of September 2007, there were 147 students at the Junior School and 185 at the Senior School.

The student/staff ratio is approximately 8:1. The staff attend regular seminars to help their professional development. Many of the teachers have degrees from universities throughout the world, including Oxford and Cambridge.

Academics

Elizabeth Moir School follows the British education system. Students sit for Ordinary Level and Advanced Level examinations in the Senior School. Since the school’s inception, students have been awarded places at Harvard, Cambridge and other leading universities throughout the world.

In August 2007,students at Elizabeth Moir School received the following results:
  • 75% of A Level papers were awarded an A or B grade and there was a 98.5% pass rate.
  • 78.6% of O Level papers were awarded an A or B grade and there was a 98.8% pass rate.


2007 proved to be another very successful year for university applications at Elizabeth Moir School. All Upper Sixth students obtained admission into their first choice universities in the UK (including the University of Oxford

Sport

The international school offers a variety of sporting activities for its students, including: basketball, football, baseball, volleyball, hockey, tennis, squash, cricket, football, athletics, swimming and netball. Elizabeth Moir School regularly competes with other international schools in these sports and often hosts its own tournaments in Colombo.

The Performing Arts

From an early age, students are encouraged to participate in the performing arts. Both schools stage productions each year and many plays have been acclaimed in the Colombo newspapers.
