The 30-year-old knockout artist, who has been sharing an apartment with formerly undefeated light heavyweight prospect Thiago Silva, crashed his motorcycle and collided chest-first into a tree, causing serious damage to his lungs, kidneys and left shoulder.

While in the hospital he spoke about his condition stating "I'm very well now, no more problems with my lungs that were filled with blood and collapsed, they are now opened up again. My kidneys had stopped due to the lung injury - now I only have a terrible pain in my shoulder where I smashed into a tree. I was doing physiotherapy to heal it, but my shoulder is still sore so I need to see the doctor again see check what's wrong."

Vieira is being treated at Hospital Amparo Feminino in northern Rio de Janeiro

He later recovered from the accident and spoke about it stating, "If I did not have this shoulder injury I'd be training, you know. But with this problem I believe I'll return within a month. I want to restart the weight training as fast as possible, I lost 43 pounds and I need to recover it. I've been talking with my manager and our intention is to fight in December."

After he left the hospital he spoke of the accident stating "I was riding a Yamaha R1 (1000cc) and everybody knows it's hard to pilot this motorcycle without getting to high speeds." he laughed. "The traffic was blocked in a tunnel and I had to go through intersection to keep me on the road, so I turned and reached a straight way, I accelerated and a corner appeared faster than I imagined, I lost control and collided with a tree."."
