, he is corrupted by the revelation that the ruthless pursuit of power will probably prove more rewarding (such as the fact his descendant will become Emperor of the universe if he is evil, and a slave if he is good).

Consequently, Ebenezer begins to display the brutal cruelty, selfishness and cynicism usually associated with his family. This however backfires after he insults Queen Victoria, missing out on a hefty reward for his former kindness.
