Diener & Diener is an architectural firm based in Basel
, Switzerland
. It was founded by Marcus Diener in 1942 and became Marcus Diener Architekt in 1948. His son, Roger Diener, joined the firm in 1980, when it was renamed Diener & Diener, and has "transformed" the firm.
The firm is considered "one of the most respected names in Europe with an architecture of rigour, austerity, and material literacy." Roger Diener studied at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology
in Zurich (ETHZ) and later returned as a professor. He is one of the co-founders of Studio Basel, a practice-based architectural education outpost of ETHZ. Diener has also been a visiting professor at Harvard University Graduate School of Design, the School of Architecture in Vienna, Academia van Bouwkunst in Amsterdam
and the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen
