During the last game of the lockout-shortened 1994–95 season, Murzyn suffered a knee injury. He returned to the lineup to play in eight post-season games in 1995
, but the remainder of Murzyn's career was hampered by knee problems, eroding his mobility, which was already noted as one of his weaknesses. In the first month of the 1996–97 season, Murzyn was on the receiving end of a slashing incident with Edmonton Oilers
