The Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson lies on the west bank of the Hudson River
about 50 miles north of New York City
and 5 miles north of the United States Military Academy
at West Point, near the eastern border of the county. The village is within the northeast corner of the Town of Cornwall
.
Cornwall-on-Hudson set itself off from the Town of Cornwall in 1885 by incorporating as a village.

. It is one of the most affluent communities in the Orange County
area. While the village is primarily residential, there is a small commercial center and many riverfront homes adjacent to Donahue Memorial Park.
