In december 14 of 1979 Cobresal nominated to Asociación Nacional de Fútbol Profesional de Chile
to enter to the second division of the Chilean professional football. For this, it was necessary for the Club Deportivo Hospital of the El Salvador is offered for membership in the National Amateur Football Association (ANFA).
On 26 February 1980 formalized entry's of Cobresal of professional football and the Second Division. In his first game in the professionalism, Cobresal lost 2-1 against debutant also Regional Atacama in Copiapo
. At the end of his first season the club finished in 14th position.
In 1982 Cobresal finished 5th, which earned him a playoff spot for classifying to the Promotion where is it in last place, not getting up. However, the following year, under the hand of Manuel Rodriguez, the team reached Second Division championship, finishing the year with a 12 points lead against his closest challenger, San Luis Quillota
