. The name of the tribe translates as "wolves" or "wolf's", and it is one of the most ancient Mongolian tribes. It is else famous as a first tribe, which joined Genghis Khan

According to Rashid ad-Din, the founders of the Chonos tribe were two sons of Charake-Lingum, named Gendu-Chino and Ulug-Chino, the third son of Charake-Lingum Surkuduku-Chino was a father of Ambagay-Khan. The male line of Chonos tribe by Rashid ad-Din is Bodonchar---Habichi-Baatar---Dutum-Meneen---Haidu---Charake-Lingum---Gendu-Chino and Ulug-Chino Now we still can find name of Gendu-Chino among names of "arvans" of Chonos in Kalmykia. Chono tribe can be found among the Darkhad
