All students choose three electives per quarter from an extensive list in the areas of foreign language, visual and performing arts, technology, physical education, vocational education, language arts, math, social studies, and science.
Carnage Middle School is well-equipped for a gifted and talented focus in Math, Science and Technology. It has multiple networked computers in each classroom, a wireless computer lab, and several fully equipped computer laboratory classrooms. Science electives such as archeology and botany
provide opportunities for students to do independent research and learn about solving real-world problems. Carnage is also the only middle school in Wake County with a greenhouse

Carnage middle school also offers a program unique to the Wake County School System, Academically Gifted Basics (AG Basics). This program allows academically-gifted students who have been identified through the school system to engage in curriculum and instructional strategies that provide differentiated services to match students' educational needs. Instruction is accelerated in math, language arts, science and social studies. AG students (AG)may be identified to receive AG Basic instruction in Language Arts/Social Studies, in Mathematics/Science or in all four areas simultaneously. The school also has a full-time AG resource teacher to coordinate this program.
