Older parts of the village date back to at least the early 18th century but it was greatly expanded in the 1970s and 1980s. Today there are more than 1700 dwellings and the population is around 4000.

The village holds a number of annual events including a Veteran's Day and an Easter Egg Hunt

There are a number of listed buildings in the village including the parish church of St. Luke, built around 1874 and designed by the renowned architect Benjamin Ferrey
