. The population was 3,972 at the 2000 census. The community is named after Ralph Bunche, a very prominent leader in civil rights. He was a Nobel Peace Prize winner and received the Silver Buffalo award form the Boy Scouts of America

In 2003 the CDP was incorporated
into the city
of Miami Gardens
, and now serves as one of its neighborhoods.
This area in 1957 opened its first High School in North Dade county and named the school North Dade Jr./ Sr. High School where Blacks could only attend. Due to integration, it lost its High School status and kept the Jr. High part. However, the Thunderbird story lives on and on forever.

In 2000 Bunche Park was the place in the United States that had the highest percentage of Bahamians, with 3.8% of the population reporting this ancestry.
There were 1,350 households out of which 25.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 29.7% were married couples
living together, 34.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.3% were non-families. 24.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.93 and the average family size was 3.45.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 28.4% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 24.7% from 25 to 44, 17.7% from 45 to 64, and 21.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 83.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 75.9 males.
