Brenton has been gaining more movement and has been able to feed himself. On 14 November 2006, Brenton said his first words since the fall. He spoke to his father Mark over the phone. He said This came just after Mark had trained Makiato to a win at Hamilton. Mark said that Brenton had helped him choose the horse.

On September 12, 2008 Brenton celebrated his 19th birthday. With the help of professional coaching, Primmer has learnt to speak and now helps his dad train a small string of horses at Wangoom, near Warrnambool.
