, Bluevale is one of the largest high schools in Waterloo Region with approximately 1,450 students (2009–2010) and teaches academic, applied and open level courses for grades 9-12.
The school opened in 1972 under the direction of principal Robert Chilton, initially with grades 9 through 11, adding grades 12, and then 13 in subsequent years. Bluevale's new territory took in students previously registered at Cameron Heights, KCI, and WCI. As of 2003, the principal is Kathy Young.
Extracurricular Programs
Many BCI teams have won WCSSAA and CWOSSA titles and have performed well at the Provincial level, including the senior boys basketball team (2009–2010), the Midget Boys Cross Country Team (2009–2010), the Junior Girls Cross Country Team (2009–2010), the Senior Boys Cross Country Team (2010–2011) and the Senior Boys Rugby team who made it to the quarter-finals at OFSAA in 2008-2009.
offering five different choirs, four bands, and three small ensembles. The main choir (Bluevale Singers) alone has over 180 members. The music program features gold-standard awards at Music Fest and an award winning Jazz Quartet, which achieved gold status at MusicFest Canada in both 2005, and 2007. In 2010 Bluevale hosted "DanceFest", a competition and showcase for dance teams from schools across Ontario.

Motto and colours
The school colours are maroon, powder blue and white, and the school's motto is "Non Quis Sed Quid", meaning "It's not who you are, but what you are." Bluevale's mascot is a knight, named Norm.Academic programs
- University and college-level subject areas include Science, Mathematics, English, Languages, Business, Music, Visual Arts, Physical Education, Technology, History, Geography, Dramatic Arts, Dance and Home Economics
- Pre-advanced placement courses are offered in various areas of study including English, Science and Mathematics. Pre-Advanced Placement has no set curriculum from the AP organization; rather, the pre-AP course is designed by the departments to prepare the students for the rigour of the AP courses.
- Advanced Placement courses are offered in the senior grades at Bluevale Collegiate. Bluevale was the first high school in the Waterloo Region to offer Advanced Placement courses and has continued to do so - courses in Advanced Placement follow an approved curriculum that leads to the equivalent of a university credit from participating universities.
- Bluevale's unique "Choose to Lead" program is offered to incoming Grade 9 students whose home school is Bluevale and who successfully complete the application and screening processes.

Bluevale has a history of success at intercollegiate sports. The school provides extensive opportunities for participation in athletics including intramurals, team sports and individual-based programs. Bluevale consistently has a high extracurricular participation rate, due in no small part to an active Students Council (KRT) and the large number of clubs at the school. From Business competitions (DECA) to Fishing Club to the Environment Club the school offers plenty of opportunities for personal growth through various staff and student-run activities.
