Selective programs

Bayside High School selectively admits students into four different programs. Its Academy of Visual Art & Design features courses in art history, fashion, painting, sculpture, computer graphics, drawing, photography, and commercial art. Its Academy of Music has both Instrumental and Vocal Programs and offers male, female, mixed, and concert chorus groups, concert and jazz band, symphonic orchestra, and more. These two programs at Bayside High School have earned it a good reputation in the arts. Its S.M.A.R.T. (Science & Math Academy of Research Talent) program has demonstrated students' ability in math and science. There is also a zoned program made for students who live in the Bayside High School Zoning District. The school has an 80% 4-year graduation rate; 91% of all students graduate within five years- exceptionally high for a NYC High School. Under principal Michael Athy, who was appointed in Fall, 2008, the school has pioneered Whole Child Guidance practices and is further improving curriculum through the additions of internships and of numerous college-accredited courses.
