History
Arriva Leicester was formed in 1981, as Midland Red East with the breakup of the old Midland RedMidland Red
Midland Red was a bus company which operated in the English Midlands from 1905 to 1981. It was the trading name used by the Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Company , which was renamed Midland Red Omnibus Company in 1974...
bus company, and then became known as Midland Fox in 1984.
In September 1996 the Leicester Sandacre Street depot closed, and then on 11 July 2009 the Southgates depot closed. On 3 October 2011 the Thurmaston depot and head office moved to a new purpose built depot.
Fleet
In late 2006, a new "Leicester Linx" brand was introduced for services in Leicester. By mid 2010, although Leicester Linx is evident on some vehicles the brand has been largely dropped due to a nationalisation of Arriva's website and standard national fleet. New vehicles introduced in 2009 were in standard Arriva livery and a reorganisation of the fleet in the Arriva MidlandsArriva Midlands
