Alberto José Rodriguez Saá (born August 21,1949) is an Argentine lawyer and politician. In 2007 he was reelected as governor of San Luis Province, Argentina to serve what will be his second term lasting until 2011. He was also the presidential candidate for Alianza Frente Justicia Unión y Libertad, FREJULI, in 2007.
The Rodriguez Saá family is well known in the Province of San Luis and can be traced to the nineteenth century and to descendants of the famous federal revolutionist Juan Saa, an important figure in the battle of Pavon (XIX century). His predecessor as governor, Alicia Lemme, was known for her protest in the Casa Rosada against the "corralito financiero" which froze the funds deposited by the Province of San Luis in 2002. His brother, Adolfo Rodríguez Saá, was governor of San Luis from 1983 until 2001, when he became President of Argentina, resigning after a week.

that established the suspension of legal proceedings against the perpetrators of illegal detentions, torture and murder during the military dictatorship. Between 1989 and 1993 he was President of the Bloque Justicialista in the National Senate. In October 1993 he voted against the government project to reform the National Constitution and allow the reelection of the then-President Carlos Menem
, known as the "Pacto de Olivos
". This has been linked to the kidnapping of his brother shortly afterwards. In December 1994 he resigned from his seat.
After finishing various postgraduate studies in Spain, he returned to Argentina in 2000 and was elected again as National Senator, being one of the 4 senators who voted against the flexible labour law (pejoratively called "Ley Banelco"). Between April and December 2001 he held the Cabinet of Ministers Leadership of the San Luis Province.
In 2003 he was elected Governor of the Province, a position that he currently occupies, having been re-elected in 2007 with over 80% of the vote. The runner up with 12.18% of the vote was Roque Palma, of the Popular Socialist Party.
In the same election, Alberto Rodriguez Saa promoted a constitutional amendment blocking indefinite re-election in the Province of San Luis.
He ran for President of the Nation in the 2007 presidential election. He represents the internal line of the Peronist Party, which opposes the current Kirchner administration. In the elections his coalition won 1,408,736 votes.
In 2011, during his second term as Governor of the Province of San Luis, he was distinguished as “Global Ambassador for Peace” by the World Organization for Peace. This award is given to the highest world personalities such as Kofi Annan, former General Secretary of the United Nations. He won the award for his policies in San Luis on "Social Inclusion", "Sustainable Environment", "Health and Work", "Nuclear Nonproliferation," and "General Welfare ". The parchment document was presented by Walter Luchetti, Knight of the Grand Cross of the Republic of Italy (Cavaliere di Gran Croce Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana).
As well as being a friend of former U.S. Vice President and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Al Gore, with whom he has had several meetings in the Province of San Luis, Alberto Rodriguez Saá recently received several awards from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and an official acknowledgment from the Senate of Argentina, both for his environmental policies.
Soon after being nominated Global Ambassador for Peace, Alberto Rodriguez Saá received the "Tiradentes Medal", previous winners of which include former Brazilian President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva and Pope Juan Pablo II. The distinction is in recognition of his humanitarian support including food and aid relief that Alberto Rodriguez Saá offered to Brazil and other countries (and various Argentine provinces) such as Peru, China, Iran and Haiti, which received recognition from the United States Embassy.
He is currently a candidate in the 2011 Presidential Elections for the Frente Compromiso Federal party. His national program aims to replicate the "San Luis" model nationwide. The province of San Luis was voted the best managed in the country by private consultants for the seventh consecutive year, in Tax Efficiency Policy, Social indicators, Infrastructure, Fiscal Solvency and International Trade. Moreover, in its ambition to create a Silicon Valley, San Luis came fourth in a ranking of 150 'digital cities' developed by Motorola.
