AA Region III
Encyclopedia
Region III is one of the four AA regions in the Virginia High School League
. It is made up of three districts: the AA Blue Ridge District
, the AA Seminole District
, and the AA Valley District
. Currently, the region consists largely of schools around the Shenandoah Valley
, Roanoke, Virginia
and Lynchburg, Virginia
.
In 2007, the River Ridge District was placed into Region IV
, which is the smallest region because many of its member schools in Southwest Virginia have lost enrollment and dropped into Group A. In exchange, the former AA Valley District broke up into two districts and was moved to Region III from Region II
.
In 2011, the AA Massanutten District
was disbanded, with all four members joining the former AA Southern Valley District
teams (minus two) to form the newly renamed AA Valley District. Those two teams were Rockbridge County High School
, who moved back to the AA Blue Ridge District, and Stuarts Draft High School
, who moved down to the Shenandoah District
in Group A Region B
.
