 from 1768 to 1770. LB's athletic teams are known as the "Cavaliers" and the school colors are Scarlet, Gray, and White.

Mission statement

The school's mission statement reads: The mission of Lord Botetourt High School is to enable students to acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to be successful in higher education and employment; motivated by integrity, concern, and appreciation of life, and a love for learning; adept in a society of ever-changing technological advances and challenges; involved as responsible , productive citizens in their community; aware of the moral, political, and environmental issues confronting nations today; and to be tolerant of cultural differences.

of Group AA. The Cavaliers have captured Group AA state championships in women's basketball and men's golf and a Group II title (pre-1970 VHSL classification) in men's track, golf (2006) and women's softball.

The LBHS Swim Team

The Lord Botetourt Swim Team has won six District Championships in six years. The first freshman to go all four years with a District Championship win was Charlie Barnett, a now rising star in the NCAA. Matt Chocklett, a school record holder in 4 events, has been the second Cavalier to go all four years with District wins. Chocklett was also named Blue Ridge District Swimmer of the Year in 2007. Sam Barnett, a long freestyle specialist, has won districts in both his freshman year and sophomore year in the 200yd and 500yd freestyle, following in the footsteps of his brother.

The LBHS Cross Country Team

The Lord Botetourt High School Cross Country Team membership has dramatically risen over the past few years, and the team has put forth many talented athletes, including Stephanie Spickard and Zeke Hunsberger, who this past season won the District Title setting a course record of 17:32. He also made 1st team all Region, coming in 6th overall with a time of 16:52. At States, he ran his personal best, which was a 16:35, earning 38th overall.

The LBHS Marching Cavaliers

The Lord Botetourt High School Marching Cavalier Band is a show and competition program consisting numerous members from both Lord Botetourt and Read Mountain Middle School band programs. The Marching Cavaliers compete in many competitions, both in and out of state, as well as performing in football games and parades.

The Marching Cavaliers are currently under the direction of band director Chris Caldwell and assistant band director Jamie Lawson. The band has received numerous awards through the years. The Marching Cavaliers highest honor to date was being receiving 1st Place in Class AAA at the USSBA Virginia State Championships. The Band went to Nationals in 2010 with their "Let's Stretch" performance.

Past shows include: Beethoven Lives!(1996), Gino Vanelli- Colors of Jazz (1997), Adventure on the High Seas (1998), The Newsies (1999), Ego/Alter Ego (2000), Flight (2001), 13 2 50, (2002), West Side Story (2003), Riverdance (2004), Cavaliers Go West (2005), Fantasmic (2006), Music of Frank Sinatra (2007), Blood, Sweat, and Tears 40th Anniversary (2008), Phobias (2009), Let's Stretch (2010), and Alla Famiglia (2011).

The LBHS Winterguard

The Lord Botetourt High School Winterguard is a show and competition program. The Winterguard has competed in various competitions, both in and out of state, and has recently been placed into High School Intermediate level in the Carolina Indoor Performance Association. The Winterguard is under the direction of choreographer T. Russell, band director C. Caldwell, and assistant band director J. Lawson.
