In the 2006–07 season, Sill was kicked out of the University of Maine despite an impressive 2005–06 season with the Truro Bearcats
of the MJAHL, one in which he was named playoff MVP. While the reasons for his dismissal from U. of Maine are still unknown, Sill went back to the Bearcats for 6 games before starting his QMJHL career with the Moncton Wildcats
, where he posted 27 goals and 23 assists over two seasons, and was named Best Defensive Forward, among other honors, in the 2008-09 season before starting his professional career in the Penguins organization.
On May 16, 2011, the Pittsburgh Penguins
announced that they had signed Sill to a two-year contract.
