History

 in Melbourne's eastern suburbs and was established in 1980. Wheelers Hill High School as it was initially named, commenced in 1980 with 96 students and 9 teachers. The buildings consisted of four general classrooms, 3 specialist rooms, a library and an administration office. In 1981 the enrolment was boosted by 164 new Year 7 students and an additional 14 Year 8 students.

Student enrolments

Student enrolment in 2008 was 540 with an initial Year 7 enrolment of 97 students. This was an increase overall with a continuing increase in year 7 enrolments and a very positive outcome. In addition, our 2008 student cohort included more than 30 International students across the College.

Campus

The College is divided into two sub schools - Senior and Middle Schools. The College is a core plus design with well maintained classrooms. Facilities include afull size gymnasium and Drama Centre, well equipped library, arts and technology areas equipped for the teaching of music, art, photography, ceramics, graphics, woodwork, metalwork and home economics.

In a major upgrades in 2006 provided a new, modern resource centre, class rooms and design rooms, staff facilities and the provision of a designated junior school area to strengthen the College Middle Years of Schooling program.

The school has many computer labs and small pods. These are supported by Notebooks which add flexibility to the College Program.

Curriculum

Programs such as instrumental music, performing arts and sporting programs provide opportunities for students to develop particular skills outside the mainstream classroom.
The College has a strong pastoral care program supported by a Student Welfare Coordinator, home groups and sub-school teams at each year level. The Pastoral Programs complement the strong academic tradition of the College. A strong emphasis on development and nurturing of leadership skills is a focus of Wheelers Hill Secondary College and programs and structures are in place to enable this.
