go over a road. Rosetta Street, which originally crossed the Port Line on the level, went under the Port Line in a subway
in 1910. The platforms were built in 1915 over the subway and the station was opened on 21 December 1915.
In March 1978, the building on the Down platform was destroyed by fire
. The ticket office on that platform was immediately closed. The ticket office on the Up platform was closed on 12 December 1980.

West Croydon came about as a result of a meeting between local residents and the Railway Commissioner in 1914. Initially, the station was to be called York, after a nearby subdivision, but was later changed to West Croydon.West Croydon is unique in Adelaide in that the platforms
