 who is in charge of the day-to-day operations of the school district. The current superintendent is Dr.Heath morrison who was appointed interim superintendent in July 2009 and was selected as the permanent superintendent in January 2010. The organizational structure of the district has recently changed. Currently, there are three additional superintendents in charge of specific areas (elementary education, secondary education, and operations). There are also four assistant superintendents (for human resources, high school education, student support services, and public policy, accountability, and management).

On September 14th 2011 Washoe County School District announced that, under the leadership of Dr.Heath Morrison and the Board of Trustees,the district's graduation rate had for the second consecutive year, improved by 7% Bringing the districts graduation rate up 14% in just two years.
