Equipment failure and closure
On December 7, 2009, WYXC experienced a "catastrophic equipment failure" involving the station's automation system; however, after evaluating the costs of repairing or replacing the equipment, the station's owners decided to close down the station, as it could not afford the cost of repairs. In addition, for the previous five years, station owners kept the station running without salary or compensation, using only revenues to keep the station going. Clarion is in talks with other parties, including former owners Empire Radio, to acquire and reopen the station.As of April 2011, WYXC is back on the air.
