Vashakidze (crater)
Encyclopedia
Vashakidze is a lunar
impact crater
that is located on the Moon
's far side, just beyond the northeastern limb. This area of the surface is not completely hidden from the Earth
, however, as suitable combinations of libration
and sunlight will bring it into view. The southeastern rim of this crater grazes the outer rim of the huge walled plain Harkhebi
. It lies to the southeast of the crater Boss
and to the northeast of the ruined walled plain Riemann
.
This crater has a well-defined rim that has not suffered much wear from impact erosion. It is roughly circular, with outward bulges to the south and east, giving it a slightly skewed appearance. The inner wall displays some slumping along the edges, particularly to the north and southeast, but little terrace development. The interior floor is relatively level with some irregularities in the eastern half.
Moon
The Moon is Earth's only known natural satellite,There are a number of near-Earth asteroids including 3753 Cruithne that are co-orbital with Earth: their orbits bring them close to Earth for periods of time but then alter in the long term . These are quasi-satellites and not true moons. For more...

Impact crater
In the broadest sense, the term impact crater can be applied to any depression, natural or manmade, resulting from the high velocity impact of a projectile with a larger body...

Earth
Earth is the third planet from the Sun, and the densest and fifth-largest of the eight planets in the Solar System. It is also the largest of the Solar System's four terrestrial planets...

Libration
In astronomy, libration is an oscillating motion of orbiting bodies relative to each other, notably including the motion of the Moon relative to Earth, or of Trojan asteroids relative to planets.-Lunar libration:...

Harkhebi (crater)
Harkhebi is a large lunar crater of the category termed a walled plain. Half of the crater to the north-northwest is overlain by the walled plain Fabry, a large formation in its own right. Attached to the northwestern rim is the much smaller crater Vashakidze...
. It lies to the southeast of the crater Boss
Boss (crater)
Boss is a lunar impact crater that is located along the northeast rim of the Moon's near side. Due to its location, the crater is viewed from the side by observers on the Earth, and its visibility is subject to libration effects....

Riemann (crater)
Riemann is a lunar crater that is located near the northeastern limb of the Moon, and can just be observed edge-on when libration effects bring it into sight. It lies to the east-northeast of the large walled plain Gauss. To the southeast, beyond sight on the far side, is the crater Vestine. This is...
