 from Los Angeles Union Station to East Ventura. Ten Pacific Surfliner trains serve the station daily and 20 Metrolink trains serve the station each weekday. The Coast Starlight operates one train daily in each direction.

There are two tracks at this station, but only one platform, which means only one of the two tracks can be used. As a result trains have to stop and wait outside of the station for that platform to be cleared by trains that are already there, which increases travel times.

Of the 73 California stations served by Amtrak, Van Nuys was the 29th busiest in FY2010, boarding or detraining an average of 190 passengers daily.
