    - Pharmacy is the art and science of biological agents used as drugs for the prevention, diagnosis, cure, and treatment of diseases of man and animals. The study of pharmacy is founded on the identification, discovery, isolation, synthesis, and formulation of biologically active compounds for clinical use. However, the increasing complexity of pathological processes and health care delivery systems has expanded the role of pharmacists from the usual orientation to drugs to competencies in ensuring appropriate use of such agents by health care providers and patients. Pharmacists are not just experts on drug information but also authorities on drug use.

Bachelor of Science in Clinical Pharmacy (5 year curriculum)

Starting in the Academic Year 2006 - 2007 the Faculty had adopted a 5 year curriculum on its Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy Degree program. The aim of the curriculum was due to pharmacy graduates of any pharmacy program around the world prior to January 1, 2003, will be allowed to take the US Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination (FPGEE). Since the US Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Committee (FPGEC) requires that all pharmacy graduates must undergo a five-year program to be able to take the FPGEE.

However, the dean, Dr. Priscilla M. Torres pointed out that not all students will be allowed to take the five-year Pharmacy program unless they pass the qualifying exams to be given by the faculty before they reach their senior year. As of now, the fifth year level will be available starting at the Academic Year 2009.

The first batch of students to take the qualifying exams is Batch 2006 - 2010. According to sources, the number of student applicants who placed their application ranged from 200-250 out of the 400 junior students.

The applicants are given exams to asses their knowledge in different fields of pharmacy practice, namely, Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics, Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Pharmaceutical Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Microbiology, Public Health, General Concept of the Health Care System, Pharmaceutical Calculations, Pharmaceutical Dosage Forms and Drug Delivery systems and Hospital Pharmacy. Of the 200-250 applicants, only the top 75 students would proceed to the interview. Criteria of selection of the 75 applicants are the General Modular Exam Rating and the General Weighted Average.
