With the ratification of the 17th Amendment
in 1913, the U.S. Senate elections of 1914 was the first time that all seats up for election were popularly elected instead of chosen by their state legislatures. The election occurred in the middle of Democratic President Woodrow Wilson
's first term.
One incumbent senator, not up for re-election, later changed from Progressive to Republican.
