In the preamble of the resolution, the Council recalled that two rounds of the presidential election were held in Côte d'Ivoire in October and November 2010 and condemned attempts to usurp the will of the people and undermine the electoral process. There was concern at the escalation of violence and all parties were urged to show restraint.
