Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky
Encyclopedia
The Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky (TANK) is the public transit system serving the Northern Kentucky
suburbs of Cincinnati, Ohio
located in Kenton County
, Boone County
and Campbell County
. TANK was founded in 1973 when the privately-funded Greenline Bus Company ceased operation, and voters in the three counties elected to publicly fund the transit system.
Currently TANK operates a fleet of 100 fixed route buses and 25 demand response vehicles.
While TANK's coverage area is the three Northern Kentucky counties, TANK routes also connect the three counties with Downtown Cincinnati. However, TANK routes go no further than Downtown Cincinnati, requiring any riders from Kentucky who wish to travel to destinations beyond Downtown Cincinnati to utilize the buses of the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority
. Although, the two systems are separate, however the TANK and Metro work to make transfers between the systems easy and even sell a joint pass.
/TANK monthly non-express pass (unlimited, METRO
fare zone 1) for $105.00. The express combined pass is $115.00. Also, TANK has a 10 ride pass for $13.50, and a 10 ride express pass for $15.75. Beginning in summer of 2010 TANK upgraded their fare system and passes that were valid for a calendar month were replaced with passes good for 30 consecutive days from first use. Also, other pass options were introduced including a 1 day pass. For a complete list of fare options, click here.
