Toni was introduced as part of a revamp of the show which saw a new producer, the departure of 14 characters, the clinic becoming a public hospital and the return of Chris Warner

Departure

 decided it was time to leave the show and resigned. The character was killed off in June 2008 after coming down with norovirus.

2001-2008

Toni arrived to the street in 2001 as the new nurse that knew how to have a good time. She quickly became good friends with Matt McAllister and the two started a relationship though she later dumped him and moved in with Donna. Toni also had a relationship with Adam Heywood

 noticed her great skills as a nurse and the two started a sexual relationship. Toni soon fell pregnant and did not know if the baby was Chris' or Adams.

Toni decided that she would put up her baby for adoption but Matt protested and she agreed. In May 2002 she gave birth to Harry Thompson-Warner

 and it was soon discovered Chris was the father. A huge custody battle ensued. Toni soon gets back together with Adam and decides she loves him. But soon she decided against it and the two broke up. After Adam got stabbed they got together again in 2003 but shortly after, broke up for good.

After realising that she loved Matt, Toni raced to the airport and caught him before catching the plane. They arrived back to Ferndale a few days later and announced that they had married in Rotorua. That year Dominic Thompson

, Toni's brother, arrived in town as Adams physiotherapist. It was soon thought that Dom was Chris' half brother and that Toni and Chris' relationship was incestuous but soon it was revealed not so. Towards the end of the year, Matt cheated on Toni as he thought their relationship wasn't really love. Toni divorced him and got back together with Adam but they broke up once again and he moved to America. Toni then started a relationship with Logan King but discovered he was married.
After breaking up with Logan, he kidnapped Toni and her son Harry. But before long he released them and fled the country. Once Chris found out he insisted that he get to be Harry's full time guardian but Toni found out Chris was sleeping with Harry's nanny and disagreed with him. After months of scheming, Dom kidnapped Chris and tied him up in a shed. He attempted to burn him to death, but Chris escaped and Dom died of the burns. Chris and Toni reunited in Fiji and in 2005 married.

. She flees Ferndale with Guy, Harry and Guy's daughter Tuesday. Chris tracked Toni down in December, leading Guy to try and escape without Chris, causing a huge car crash. In 2008 it was revealed Toni had lost a kidney as a result of the crash and moves in with TK

 and Sarah. Toni and Guy continue their relationship and Toni and Chris go for a friendly divorce. However in June 2008 Toni is taken to hospital severely dehydrated. It is discovered she has Norovirus and her remaining kidney is severely damaged, resulting in her having dialysis every day for the rest of her life. She agrees to a reconciliation with Chris but unexpectedly goes into cardiac arrest and dies in front of Harry and Chris.

Reception

Toni was described as "popular" by producer Jason Daniel. However actress, Laura Hill stated she thought Toni had lost popularity following her final story lines.

and Toni won the Throng Shortland Street Fan Award for "Best Couple" and Toni won runner up for "favorite female character". She won the 2008 award for "most missed character" and her death winning both the "saddest moment" award and being runner up in "biggest letdown".
