Early career

Blackledge began his career on the domestic scene, for organisations such as Ultimate Combat and Cage Rage

. Blackledge began his career slowly, gaining a 6-2 record during the first 4 years of his professional career.

Blackledge then fought future Team Rough House

 member Tengiz Tedoradze twice and lost on both occasions; once by submission (strikes) and on the other occasion, by TKO.

Blackledge rebounded with two successive victories; one via KO (head kick) against Tom Howard at Cage Rage 20 and another against Przemyslaw Mysiala via TKO (cut) at Cage Gladiators 4.

Blackledge then faced future UFC fighter Stefan Struve at Cage Gladiators 5 and lost via submission (triangle choke) and suffered his second successive loss at the hands of Martin Thompson via TKO.

After taking over a year out, Blackledge returned under the M-1 organisation, defeating Tatsuya Mizuno by submission (rear naked choke), before defeating Enoc Torres via KO (head kick) in just nine seconds.
