Thurstonland is a small rural village
in the Civil Parish
of Kirkburton

, West Yorkshire

. It has a population of almost 400.
Thurstonland urban district
was created in 1894 and merged with Farnley Tyas
urban district in 1925. Both were abolished in 1938 under a County Review Order
, with the majority of the district merging into the Kirkburton
urban district and the remainder into the Holmfirth urban district
. It is just outside the borders of the Peak District
National Park.
It is situated on a hilltop above Brockholes
and to the southeast of Farnley Tyas and north of Shepley
and is located within the postal district of Huddersfield
(HD4).
It has a village pub, First school - (Thurstonland Endowed First School)
, church, a children's recreational area and a cricket
club. Apart from the pub on the southern edge of the village the other facilities are all located next to each other, at the northern edge of the village. Below the village, through the hill, lies the Thurstonland tunnel on the Penistone line railway

The Wakefield
county court rolls indicates that the village was known as a township
as far back as 1275, where 'Storthes in Thurstonland' is mentioned and 'Matthew de Storthes', in the reign of Henry III (1216 to 1272) is also noted to have lived in the area. In 1541 Henry VIII granted "to John Storthes of Shitlington, but likewise of Storthes Hall, gentleman" the Manor of Thurstonland and other lands late the property of Roche Abbey.

The club was founded in 1874 by a group of local cricket 'enthusiasts' on a site that they acquired in 1901, which was their third home. The club's Edwardian design wooden pavilion
was built in 1910, though it is due to undergo some renovation and updating of its player facilities Development Plan. The club caters for both senior and junior teams.
