Information

Thomas Haney Secondary School (THSS) follows the Self-Directed Model and is currently part of The Canadian Coalition for Self-Directed Learning. At Thomas Haney students may choose to recreate their courses entirely on the Provincial Learning Outcomes, or they may follow ‘Learning Guides’ which were designed by the Thomas Haney Teachers.  In the recent years a shift towards traditional structure has been seen but the Self-Directed system remains largely in place. Classes have been redesigned to a part-time basis, allowing the student to work independently between ‘seminars’ (classes).

Thomas Haney has had a history of distinctive programs that have been made available for the students. One such program, known as Connections, is an example of Thomas Haney tradition. A senior class incorporating, Biology 11, English 11, and Law 12, its primary goal is to establish a "real world" approach to these subjects inside and outside of the classroom in a non-traditional setting. Additionally, the Moodle

Thomas Haney is also home to a highly successful Equestrian Academy, an affordable ($30/month) program is fully inclusive and does not require students to own a horse nor does it require students to attend THSS. Students enrolled in the Equestrian Academy in Grades 10, 11, and 12 can earn up to 16 credits towards graduation.
