It is primarily a retail location, with some offices at Charter Row. Its lack of recent regeneration has seen little happen in the area since it was bombed in World War II

, but there is a redevelopment plan, submitted by owners RREEF which is to increase the retail, commercial and residential capacity of the quarter to improve its nightlife, and in the short-term to house the relocated markets from the Castlegate Quarter

Future

Currently, the Moor runs through the middle of the quarter, so the area is deemed to have a good base upon which to build, but office developments and multi-storey car parks will be built at Eyre Street and Charter Row with leisure facilities at ground-level to increase activity all around the quarter. A new route to the rest of the centre will be created at Furnival Square, with a midi bus interchange

 and Charter Square.
