The telecommunications group Dial Telecom, which in December 2008 became the owner of Telekom Austria Czech Republic, announced that as of 21 January 2009 the name of this company has been changed to VOLNÝ, a.s. As of 1 February 2009 communications from the new company will be made using the existing VOLNÝ brand.

The Dial Telecom Group acquired VOLNÝ in December 2008, when purchased 100% of the shares in Telekom Austria Czech Republic from the Austrian company Telekom Austria TA Aktiengesellschaft.

Telekom Austria Czech Republic, a.s. is a subsidiary of Telekom Austria Group in Czech Republic. The company operates as an alternative telecommunications operator under the brand "Volny" (Czech word for "free"). Telekom Austria Czech Republic arose out of the merge of Czech On Line, a.s. and ETEL, s.r.o. on 1 October 2007.

The company ETEL, s.r.o. has been founded in 1997 and the company has been known as an alternative telecommunication operator offering services mainly in business segment. ETEL has been acquired by Telekom Austria in the 2007.
