A teja (ˈtexa) is a popular dumpling-shaped confection from the Ica Region
of Peru
. It contains manjar blanco
filling (similar to dulce de leche
) and either dry fruits or nuts
. The exterior is usually a sugar-based fondant-like shell, but there also exists chocolate
versions too (known by the contraction chocotejas).
Tejas are also a Spanish confection of a paste of flour, sugar, and other ingredients, baked. The Spanish recipes direct that the pastry should be shaped as a typical teja (Spanish for roof tile).
