According to a legend, after the Pandavas’ victory at Hastinapur, they began to have a fervent desire for "Tambool" or "big Leaf". A messenger was urgently sent to the underground abode of the Queen of the snakes. The Queen, only too happy to oblige, cut the extreme phalange of her little finger and sent it to the Pandavas. The phalange was planted with great ceremony and soon the Betel plant grew out of the phalange. The creeper is since then referred to as « Nagveli » the snake plant. Tamboli is a Surname in Jain (Deravasi Murti Pujak Jain) in Gujarat and are originally from Jamnagar. This is a rich business community and many years ago the Nagar Sheth of Jamnagar (earlier known as Nawanagar)was Shri Fulchandbhai P. Tamboli (He was also the first elected Member Of Legislative Council (MLC now known as MLA) from Jamnagar). These Tamboli family members are spread in Gujarat in cities like Jamnagar, Rajkot and Bhavnagar, also Mumbai in Maharashtra. Casting industry in Bhavnagar, Gujarat is dominated by these families.
