The Apostolic Exarchate was erected by Pope Benedict XVI

 on July 14, 2010 upon request of the Holy Synod of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church, particularly the Late Moran Mor Cyril Baselios Catholcios Bava in 2001. The first and current Exarch is Aboon Thomas Mar Eusebius, formerly secretary general of the major archeparchy of the Syro-Malankara Church at Trivandrum, India.
