A Super Cup is a competition, usually but not exclusively in football

, which often forms the curtain-raiser to a season. Most Super Cups are one-off fixtures between the League Champions and major Cup Winners of the previous season. Sometimes these are two-legged affairs, with a match played at each side's stadium, but increasingly they are one-off fixtures at a neutral venue. The name Super Cup suggests that the match ultimately decides the best team in the nation, but the League Champions are still considered Champions, regardless of who wins the Super Cup. Super Cups are not considered as important, more as prestige matches.
