The park's grounds provide an excellent venue for cross-country running, and host competitions for many cross-country teams from local high school

s and runners' clubs. The 5-kilometer course, featuring the aptly named "Cardiac Hill", is regarded as one of the most difficult cross-country courses in the US. The park is open year round from sunrise to sunset.

Features

  • Golf Course - The Sunken Meadow State Park Golf Course features 27 holes that may be played as either 9 or 18 holes. The first two courses, Red and Green, were built in 1962, followed by the Blue Course in 1964. All three courses were designed by Alfred Tull. Reservations and walk-up times are now available that will allow you to play one nine or eighteen hole round. Only those that are registered to use the automated system are able to call the reservation phone number. To register, you must do so at the Golf Club House at Sunken Meadow and present a valid New York State driver's license. Minimum Age to golf is 11 years old with guardian, 17 years old unaccompanied. During the summer months, golfers are charged a fee at the toll booth. That fee is then applied to the golfer's greens fee at the clubhouse. There is a Pro Shop in the clubhouse where motorized carts may be rented. There is also a bar and snack food restaurant available and open to the public.


The park also features beachfront swimming on Long Island Sound, hiking, large picnic areas with playfields, ball fields and playgrounds. The fee for the beach is $10.00 per vehicle. For Park Information please call: (631)269-4333.

The park also offers a large picnic area in Field 4 with picnic tables and charcoal grills.

There is a summer wedding and event facility known as "The Pavillion". It is operated by the park concessioneer, Lessings Inc. Private parties may be booked there throughout the season by contacting Kathy Lilly at Lessings directly.
