Strictly Come Dancing (Series 4)
Encyclopedia
The fourth series of Strictly Come Dancing
started on 7 October 2006 and ended on 23 December 2006. It was presented by Bruce Forsyth
and Tess Daly
, and the winner was Mark Ramprakash
along with his dancing partner Karen Hardy
.
The show works by having four judges: Craig Revel Horwood
, Arlene Phillips
, Len Goodman
and Bruno Tonioli
, judging each couple out of ten after each performance. When all the couples have danced, they are inserted onto the leaderboard, where the highest ranked couple will get the highest amount of points available, and the lowest ranked couple getting one point.
On the second show of the night, once the viewers' votes are in, the points from the leaderboard are added to those created by the viewer votes to find the two lowest ranked couples, and the lowest ranked couple go home.
Mark and Karen received two additional tens from Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli when they performed a Jive on the series five Christmas Special in 2007.

danced only by the semi-finalists - In week one, the male celebrity couples danced for the judges and the public vote, while the female celebrity couples performed a group dance. This was reversed in week two. Jimmy Tarbuck did not take part in the male celebrities' group dance due to health reasons, and officially withdrew from the competition the following week. From week three, all couples were marked against each other
- Mark and Karen made Strictly Come Dancing history in week five by being the first couple who had to re-start a routine. They were forced to stop after Mark's microphone was caught in Karen's dress. In spite of this, they received another go and went on to receive the highest score of the night
- In the results show of week 10, the two couples with the lowest combined score had to perform a "dance-off" for survival. However, it was possible for viewers to calculate the points combination that each couple received beforehand, which indicated that the result was actually unaffected by the dance-off
- Jimmy Tarbuck's withdrawal meant that the final did not have three couples as planned. Instead the two remaining couples performed five dances each (for the previous two years the final had had three couple performing four dances each). The dances performed in the final were favourite ballroom dance (for Mark, the TangoTango (ballroom)Ballroom Tango is a ballroom dance that branched away from its original Argentine roots by allowing European, American, Hollywood, and competitive influences into the style and execution of the dance....
